BOSTON — The NESN cameras caught injured rookie Roman Anthony standing beside manager Alex Cora in the dugout during the Red Sox’ 5-4 walkoff win over the A’s in 10 innings on Wednesday.

Cora said they weren’t having a baseball conversation.

“It was more about the treadmill and his workouts,” Cora said Thursday, smiling. “It was actually (the) Peloton yesterday. He did the assault bike yesterday. He added that to his program, which is a step in the right direction because that’s not easy to do. And we were joking about, ‘Hey, next time is (the) Peloton with (instructor) Olivia for a half hour.’”

Anthony has not set a timeline for his return from his oblique strain that landed him on the 10-day injured list Sept. 3. A 4- to 6-week absence is about typical for this type of injury. Exactly four weeks would be Oct. 1, and six weeks would be Oct. 15.

These timelines could impact Anthony’s availability for the postseason, as the AL Wild Card series is scheduled for Sept. 30-Oct. 2, followed by the ALDS (Oct. 4-10) and the ALCS (Oct. 12-20).

“Not every time that you see guys talking to a manager or coaches, it’s about the game,” Cora said. “It’s more about where they’re at. You see there’s a lot of guys banged up in the dugout. I love the fact that they’re there, engaged in the game because it’s a good learning experience for all of them. But at the same time, just checking in.”

The 21-year-old Anthony had been one of Boston’s most productive offensive players for the two and a half months before his injury. He’s batting .292 with a .396 on-base percentage, .463 slugging percentage, .859 OPS, eight home runs, 18 doubles, one triple, 32 RBIs and 48 runs in 71 games.
