NEW YORK − The Mets bucked the trend in the Subway Series a season ago.

After the Mets and Yankees split four-game series in back-to-back years in 2022 and 2023, the Mets swept all four games in between June and July in 2024. It was the first season sweep since the Yankees took all four games back in 2017.

Ultimately both teams suffered the same fate and were knocked out of the Major League Baseball playoffs in consecutive rounds by the Dodgers — the Mets in the NLCS and the Yankees in the World Series.

But this season’s matchup, which goes back to two three-game series across two separate months, takes on an added layer as Juan Soto switches boroughs in the prime of his career. It brings added drama to the first meeting between the crosstown rivals, which gets underway at 7:05 p.m. on Friday night at Yankee Stadium.

Carlos Rodon will draw the start for the Yankees, while the Mets will counter with Tylor Megill.

Worst of rain is gone

After a mid-afternoon deluge in the metropolitan area, the brunt of the rain appears to be out of the way for the Subway Series opener.

According to AccuWeather, there is only a minor chance of misty precipitation at game time.

The forecast is calling for a high temperature of 68 degrees.
