With a chance to advance to the Southern League Championship Series, the Chattanooga Lookouts were, instead, one-hit in a 4-0 loss to the Birmingham Barons.
Kevin Abel got the start, going 4 2/3 innings. He allowed four hits, four earned runs, walked four, and struck out three.
Meanwhile, the Barons pitching staff was nearly untouchable. 2024 fifth overall MLB draft pick Hagen Smith was almost perfect in five innings of work. He did not allow a hit and fanned 10 batters.
The Lookouts did not get a hit until the bottom of the ninth inning, when Edwin Arroyo broke through with a one-out double.
The 4-0 loss means Chattanooga and Birmingham will play a decisive Game 3 on Friday at 7:15 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to the Championship Series, the loser will see their season come to a close.
