A Giants error and a Freddie Freeman RBI single in the sixth inning were enough to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 2-1 win at Los Angeles against San Francisco Thursday night.

Ben Portveldt scored on San Francisco catcher Patrick Bailey’s error on the play following a Mookie Betts ground ball to shortstop then Freeman singled home Shohei Ohtani.

Six Dodgers pitchers combined on a one-hitter. The Giants run came on a bases-loaded bases-on-balls in the seventh. Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto worked 5.1 innings and gave up one hit.

The Dodgers led the National League West Division by three games over second-place San Diego at press time Friday. The Giants (76-77) were in the thick of a race for the third NL wild card spot. At press time, the New York Mets were 79-74, and the Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds were both 77-76.

In the American League East, the New York Yankees had narrowed the Toronto Blue Jays’ lead to three games at press time. The Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros were in a dead heat for firs place in the AL West.
