Yelich sums up the twists, turns and countless story lines that go into a single season

Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich sums up the twists, turns and countless story lines that go into a single baseball season.

The magic number for the Milwaukee Brewers to clinch the division is three as they begin a three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Follow along for live updates as Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski (5-2, 4.35) takes the mound against St. Louis right-hander Sonny Gray (13-8, 4.43).

Control eludes Misiorowski early as Cardinals pounce

Early signs were not encouraging from Misiorowski, who’s not only pitching for a spot in the playoff rotation but might be still having to earn a spot on the roster as a whole. The right-hander walked three batters in the first two innings, two of which came around to score as St. Louis jumped out to a 2-0 lead. He issued a five-pitch free pass to Brendan Donovan to lead off the game, then put Ivan Herrera on after going to a full count.

Caleb Durbin’s defensive gem at third base for the second out of the inning prevented further damage, as did an out on the bases on Lars Nootbaar’s two-out RBI single.

Another leadoff walk, this time to Thomas Saggese, burned Misiorowski in the second as a Pedro Pages single put runners on the corners before a Jordan Walker double play grounder made it 2-0.

Sal Frelick makes it a dozen

How about 12 homers on the year for Sal Frelick?

The Brewers right fielder, who had all of five long balls in the first two seasons of his career, made it a dozen in 2025 by sending a pitch from Sonny Gray 422 feet to open the third. It was the longest homer of Frelick’s career, surpassing a 412-foot homer against Baltimore on May 20, 2025.
