Looking to find their way back into the win column, it was another disappointing evening for the Angels. They saw their three-run lead squandered in a 7-6 defeat to the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, marking the eighth straight loss for the Halos.

It was a night in which Nolan Schanuel made his return from the injured list, where he had been out since August 24 with a left wrist contusion. He had a promising performance, finishing 2-4 with a big RBI double in the fifth inning that helped Los Angeles temporarily jump out to a 5-3 lead.

A pair of youngsters, Christian Moore and Denzer Guzman, also made their presence felt on the Colorado pitching staff. Each went deep in the second inning, mashing a pair of deep home runs to left.

Guzman, just 21 years old, collected the second home run of his career thus far. He was called up on September 13 and is playing in his third series with Los Angeles, finishing 1-3 and reaching base twice on Friday.

While the lineup found a way to generate production, Angels’ starter Mitch Farris trended in the opposite direction. Making his fourth big league start, the left-hander lasted only 4 1/3 innings, giving up eight hits and six earned runs.

Colorado quickly jumped on him for a pair in the first, with the biggest highlight being an RBI triple from standout catcher Hunter Goodman. In his first season at the Major League level, Goodman boasts a .280 average along with 30 home runs and 88 RBI.

Farris’s sloppiest frame was the fifth, where he issued back-to-back singles before a walk to Goodman loaded the bases with nobody out. The Angels’ 6-3 cushion quickly began to slip away, as Blaine Crim’s sacrifice fly made it 6-5.

Brenton Doyle then added an RBI single, with a bobble from Bryce Teodosio in center field allowing the tying run to cross the plate as well. Farris was knocked out of the contest, with reliever Chase Silseth taking over. Teodosio, usually an excellent defender, had made a spectacular catch in the third inning to rob Crim of a solo home run.

Silseth quickly allowed Colorado to take the lead as Ezequiel Tovar’s sacrifice fly to left field was enough to score Doyle for the go-ahead run. While the Los Angeles bullpen managed to spin 3 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball the rest of the way, the damage had already been done.

Innings six through nine saw the Angels muster just a pair of singles as they failed to see any sort of comeback materialize. After Rockies starter Bradley Blalock allowed six runs through five innings, the bullpen backed him up with four scoreless frames to get across the finish line.

Farris fell to 1-2 this season, now having failed to make it through five innings in consecutive starts. His ERA has ballooned to 6.52 after allowing just three earned runs through the first 11 innings of his career.

Dropping to 69-85, the Angels’ eight-game skid is their longest since dropping 14 in a row in 2022. They will look to bounce back in the second game of three on Saturday night and finally earn win number 70.

Right-hander Kyle Hendricks (7-10, 5.01 ERA) will take the mound for Los Angeles, making his 30th start of 2025. He opposes Colorado right-hander Germán M árquez (3-14, 6.65 ERA), who has lost six consecutive decisions and gone without a victory since June 18.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:10 p.m. PT.
