The Guardians head into the stretch run of the MLB regular season in the middle of the Amerian League playoff race. Cleveland hit a season-high five home runs to win the first game of a doubleheader at Minnesota on Saturday, Sept. 20 to extend its season-best winning streak to nine games. The Guardians and Twins player again later tonight.

A sweep of Detroit heading into the weekend series in Minnesota has helped Cleveland not only climb up in the wild card standings but kept it within striking distance of the Tigers.

The Guardians have played their best baseball in September, winning 14 times in a 15-game span to keep themselves in the race for one of the American League three wild card spots and in the AL Central Division. They are 1 game back of the last wild card spot, as of 4:25 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20. They also have moved within 1.5 games of Detroit in the Central after the Tigers lost their fifth in a row, blowing a ninth-inning lead Saturday afternoon.

After a day-night doubleheader Saturday, Sept. 20, the Guardians and Twins wrap up their four-game series at 2:10 p.m. Sunday. Cleveland began this final road trip of the regular season a three-game series in Detroit. The Guardians were 7-5 winners in 10 innings in the series opener Sept. 16 and 4-0 winners Sept. 17 and 3-1 winners on Sept. 18.
