NEW YORK — The Mets have one of their best young talents on the mound to try and continue the momentum they’ve earned at home.
Nolan McLean will look to extend the Mets’ win streak to three games when he takes the ball for the club’s 4:10 p.m. matchup with the Nationals on Saturday at Citi Field.
The Mets need to keep that progress going to hold on to their NL Wild Card spot. They entered the day with a two-game lead over the Reds for the final playoff spot but the Reds own the tiebreaker.
Last time out, McLean tossed six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts while scattering five hits and two walks in a no-decision against the Rangers. McLean enters Saturday’s matchup with a 4-1 record, 1.19 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 37â…” innings.
For the Nationals, Cade Cavalli will make his ninth start of the season. The 27-year-old righty is 3-1 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.46 WHIP this season.
The Mets stormed off with a 12-6 win in the series opener on Friday night after falling behind 4-1 early in the game. Juan Soto supplied a three-run home run, while Francisco Lindor was 3-for-4 with four runs and an RBI.
