Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw spoke about his potential role for the Dodgers during the upcoming postseason.

The Dodgers have just eight games left in the regular season, and will need to make a decision on who to bring into October by the end of the season.

“We’ll see,” Kershaw said. “We’ll see what happens. My job is just to pitch well. Whatever decision they make, or if I get to make a start or do whatever — they’re going to make the best decision for the team. I’ll understand either way. Obviously making it hard for them is what I want to do.”

Kershaw is fresh off of his final regular season start at Dodger Stadium, where he pitched 4.1 innings and allowed two runs to cross while striking out six. The 18-year veteran announced his retirement at the end of the season ahead of Thursday’s series opener against the San Francisco Giants.

Manager Dave Roberts revealed he has a place for the future Hall of Famer.

“The bottom line is I trust him,” Roberts said. “And for me, the postseason is about players you trust.”

Kershaw has had a solid season since returning from toe surgery, which he underwent in the offseason after missing the 2024 postseason due to the issue. He has a 3.55 ERA this season through 21 starts, and has an ERA+ well above league average with a mark of 118. Despite his limited amount of time on the roster, his 10 wins are second to only Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the team.

The Dodgers have a postseason spot locked up, and are well on their way to winning the NL West with a four-game lead over the San Diego Padres in the division. Kershaw is sure to feature in the postseason, but can still solidify his place on the roster with the final regular season start of his career.
