Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy referred to Major League Baseball as a “jungle” after the Brewers clinched the National League Central for a third straight year Sunday, Sept. 21.
After the celebration, Brewers rookies were adorned in the literal representation of that remark.

The Brewers posted a photo of the team’s rookies dressed up as zoo animals, ostensibly in front of their plane before a voyage to San Diego for the final road series of the year, beginning Monday, Sept. 22.
Flanked on either side were veteran players Brice Turang and Sal Frelick as zookeepers.
Catcher Jeferson Quero, a top prospect who has yet to make his Major League debut but has been with the team as part of the taxi squad in case of injury, dressed as a penguin. Next to him was pitching phenom Jacob Misiorowski, a giraffe.
Others in the photo were strength assistant coach José Salas (alligator/crocodile/some adjacent reptile), Chad Patrick (lion), Caleb Durbin (gorilla), Isaac Collins (elephant), Robert Gasser (meerkat?) and hitting coach Eric Theisen (flamingo).

According to FanGraphs, the Brewers have the third-highest wins-above-replacement value from their rookie class (8.8 WAR between hitters and pitchers) in 2025, behind the Athletics (11.1) and Chicago White Sox (10.4). The Athletics get a healthy chunk of that output from Nick Kurtz (4.2) and Jacob Wilson (3.3) on the position side.
The Brewers have made a tradition of costumes for the rookies on the final flight of the season. Last year, Jackson Chourio donned a “Mr. Incredible” costume as players dressed up as Pixar/Disney characters.
