A couple of AL East teams with hopes of locking up the opportunity to play October baseball in this final week of the MLB regular season open a three-game series on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto where the Boston Red Sox are visiting the Toronto Blue Jays.
The game is scheduled to start at 7:07 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast on NESN. Fans looking to watch this MLB game for free can do so using DIRECTV, which offers a free trial, or FuboTV, which also offers a free trial and up to $30 off your first month. The Blue Jays have spent practically the entire summer atop the AL East and with six games remaining and a two-game lead on the New York Yankees and a five-game lead on the Red Sox, the division is their’s for the taking, along with the top seed in the AL Postseason.
Toronto is 90-66 and has won seven of its 10 meetings against Boston so far this season. However, the team recently lost shortstop Bo Bichette to a PCL sprain in his left knee, that will not require surgery, according to reports, but it could potentially keep him sidelined for the playoffs, although a return is still on the table.
The Red Sox are 85-71 and looking to bounce back from a 7-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays when they had a chance to complete a series sweep of the division rival. Boston has been dealing with its own injury issues with rookie sensation Roman Anthony sidelined with an oblique injury since Sept. 2. The team has gone 7-9 since having to place the outfielder on the injured list. They are only one game ahead of the Houston Astros and Cleveland Guardians for the second Wild Card spot and a Wild Card series against the Yankees.
Tuesday’s pitching matchup sees Boston’s Lucas Giolito taking on Toronto’s Kevin Gausman.
