TORONTO — The Red Sox open a crucial three-game series against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on Tuesday.
Boston (85-71) holds a one-game lead over both the Guardians (84-72) and Astros (84-72) for the second AL Wild Card spot.
Those three teams — along with the AL Central-leading Tigers (85-71) — are all in the mix for the final two Wild Card spots. Cleveland is just one game behind the Tigers for first in the AL Central. So one of those two teams will win that division.
The Sox are three games behind the Yankees (88-68) who sit comfortably in the first Wild Card. The Blue Jays (90-66) are in good position to win the AL East, two games ahead of the Yankees.
Boston has a 90.2% chance to make the postseason, according to FanGraphs. The Tigers have an 85.0% chance, the Astros 65.8% and the Guardians 59%.
