SYRACUSE 8, LEHIGH VALLEY 5 (BOX)
Four spots in the bottom of the first and bottom of the fifth gave Blade Tidwell and the Syracuse bullpen plenty of wiggle room on the evening. To his credit, Tidwell really didn’t need much of it, allowing two runs- one a legit earned run and the other an unearned run that came on Tidwell’s own throwing error- over five innings. The bullpen allowed three more Lehigh Valley runs to score, but for the most part, it was smooth sailing for Syracuse.

HARTFORD 7, BINGHAMTON 5 (BOX)
Binghamton and Hartford came into the contest with identical 20-15 records, but with the rehabbing Paul Blackburn on the mound for the Rumble Ponies, you would think advantage Binghamton. Well, readers, not so fast! The rehabbing right-hander ended up allowing a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth and then walked the bases loaded. After recording a force out at home, he was taken out of the game for Trey McLoughlin, who gave up a Coke Carrigg grand slam on a meatball down the heart of the plate. The Rumble Ponies had a slim 3-2 lead until that ill-fated pitch, but obviously lost the lead. They would never recover it.

The Brooklyn offense added a few more runs to their tally, ending up with six on the evening, while Dakota Hawkins and Chandler Marsh each threw two sterling innings of relief to complete the shutout.

ST. LUCIE 11, DAYTONA 5 (BOX)
After the first inning, this game was all St. Lucie. The offense combined to score three runs in the top of the second, three more in the top of the third, and two more in the top of the fourth before Franklin Gomez finally had a hiccup and allowed two Daytona runs in the bottom of the fourth. Daytona ended up scoring three more runs in the ninth inning, but the inning as a whole was pandemonium. It began with pitcher Jorge De Leon hitting a batter, walking a batter, and giving up a triple. After throwing a wild pitch that let the third run of the inning score, he hit outfielder Marvin Valdez. De Leon had absolutely no command of his pitchers the entire at-bat- the entire inning, really- but Valdez took exception. He slammed down his bat after getting nicked by De Leon’s pitch, which prompted Daiverson Gutierrez to get in his face. Benches cleared, but there were no pushes or punches thrown. Four players- Malvin Valdez and first baseman Luis Reyes on the Tortugas, and Kevin Villavicencio and Daiverson for the Mets- were ejected when the dust settled. Hunter Hodges replaced De Leon and he ended the game 1-2-3 just like that. So much for all that late excitement.
