ECTOR COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- The Texas Rangers are investigating following an officer involved shooting Wednesday afternoon.
According to Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis, around 11:26 am on September 27, deputies responded to the 1500 block of Avenue L in reference to a subject with a gun. When deputies arrived on the scene, the armed suspect refused to comply and left the scene in a vehicle.
After a lengthy pursuit, the suspect reportedly fired his weapon at deputies and continued into Winkler County on Highway 115 where an officer involved shooting occurred after an ECSO deputy fired upon the suspect. He was taken to an area hospital and his condition has not yet been released.
The Texas Rangers have been notified and are in route to the scene where they will take over the investigation, as is the case with all officer involved shootings.
