The Seattle Mariners close out their series with the Colorado Rockies tonight at T-Mobile Park after sealing their division win last night — their first in 24 years. Now they look to secure a first-round bye by securing one of the top two records among AL division leaders.
Last night’s 9-2 victory carried extra history. Cal Raleigh blasted two home runs to become just the fourth catcher in MLB history to reach the 60-homer mark in a single season. Three other Mariners went deep as well, while Luis Castillo dominated on the mound with 7.1 innings of one-run, one-hit ball.
Tonight could bring another slugfest. Bradley Blalock takes the mound for Colorado. The 24-year-old right-hander is 2-5 with a 9.16 ERA this season. Aside from a strong July, Blalock has been hit hard this season. He’s posted an ERA above twelve over his past five starts, and he hasn’t allowed fewer than five runs in any of them — a brutal trend that leaves him vulnerable against one of baseball’s hottest lineups.
His 2025 season has seen outings like a disastrous 12-run, 13-hit start against San Diego in May. So there’s a good chance Raleigh could reach the 70 home run mark tonight. (Just kidding.)
For Seattle, Emerson Hancock gets the ball in an opener role. He’s 4-5 with a 5.13 ERA overall, though much of that damage came earlier in the season as a starter. Since returning as a September bullpen piece, he’s been sharp, posting a 2.08 ERA across six outings of up to two innings.
Prediction
The Mariners are in peak form offensively and should have no trouble capitalizing on Blalock’s struggles. Expect their bats to stay hot as they cruise to another comfortable win.
