On Thursday night, the Arizona Cardinals will break out some slick, desert-themed uniforms for their big home game against the Seattle Seahawks. They look like they’re sand-speckled and have a nice “burnt” trim and touch to them that truly fits in line with the desert motif Arizona is aiming for. Just to be clear, you know there’s a lot of sand in the state of Arizona, right? OK, good. The Cardinals are also pairing these new uniforms with some awesome desert sunrise endzones (modeled after the Arizona state flag) that match the night’s theme. Unfortunately, running back James Conner won’t get to participate in any of these festivities, either.
But the biggest question is: Why are the Cardinals wearing these desert-themed uniforms, exactly? What’s the point?

It’s all part of an NFL initiative to have fresher threads for “rivalry” games, just like this Cardinals-Seahawks matchup. Rest assured, this won’t be the last “rivalry” uniform we see from any NFL team this season. This is what Arizona is bringing to the table on that front as it tries to look spiffy (also, make money on jersey sales, quite obviously).
And I have to say: the Cardinals have done a bang-up job all around.
