TOWN OF LAWRENCE (WLUK) — An expansion project is officially underway at the Impact Sports Academy in the town of Lawrence.
Officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday to celebrate the start of construction. The project includes a significant addition to the ISA facility, as well as a quadplex field complete with concessions.
“We’re building a four-field complex to host tournaments, so it will be four full-size fields, turf infields. We’re also adding 15,000 square feet onto the back of our building with 10 additional [batting] cages,” said ISA owner Jason Berken. “Space for our athletes at ISA to train on and play on, hopefully all spring and summer.”
We’re hoping that it’s a real asset for the community, more than anything.
Currently, ISA has partnerships that allow their athletes to practice at local fields. Berken says they will still utilize some of those fields in the future, but it will be beneficial for ISA to have their own.
The expansion comes as ISA has seen immense growth since it was founded in 2017, with the goal of providing Green Bay-area youth with opportunities to develop their skills and excel in baseball and softball. Berken says ISA has travel teams that train year-round and offers camps, clinics, lessons and programs for all ages.
Berken expects the addition to the building to complete in late March or early April, while the fields will be done in about a year.
“The goal is that we’d host a few tournaments in the fall next year, and the following summer we’ll run a full tournament slate from the end of April through October, every weekend,” Berken said.
