The Red Sox are paying homage to their famed ballpark as part of their new threads.

Boston unveiled its new Nike City Connect jersey ahead of Friday’s home game against the Atlanta Braves — with the newly dubbed “Fenway Greens” uniforms drawing from the distinct green hue featured on the ballpark’s historic Green Monster in left field.

The “Fenway Greens” will be worn on select home games throughout the season, including May 23. Boston’s marathon-inspired yellow and blue uniforms will remain a core jersey for the team moving forward — replacing the blue alternate jersey that Boston donned during its clinching game of the 2018 World Series.

“The original Nike City Connect uniforms were a bold departure for the team, rooted in the spirit of the Marathon more than the club’s traditional identity,” said Troup Parkinson, Chief Marketing and Partnerships Officer for the Boston Red Sox. “This time, we started with a clear design thesis to create something lasting – drawn directly from Fenway Park itself. Every element has meaning and reflects a place that has defined Red Sox baseball for over a century.”

Beyond mimicking the Green Monster’s color scheme, Boston’s new jerseys have several other details drawn from Fenway Park’s unique details and features.

The “Red Sox” printed across the front of the jerseys is penned in Green Monster’s signature hand-painted lettering, while an encircled “B” logo on the sleeve is drawn from the hit and error scoring lights on the Monster.

Each player’s jersey numbers appear in yellow on the front, a tribute to the Fisk and Pesky poles. On the back, white numbers with a notch at the top pay homage to the hand-painted numbers hung on the scoreboard across the Monster each inning.

Smaller homages to Fenway include a replica of the Green Monster’s vintage ball, strike, and out indicators — which are printed on the lower left of the jersey. The interior of the jersey color is also printed in a concrete, heather pattern to mimic the interior structure of the Monster — while “1912” is stitched onto that interior collar to honor the year Fenway Park opened.

Speaking ahead of first pitch, Alex Cora endorsed the design of the new jerseys — which stand as just one of many storylines worth following on Friday night with Garrett Crochet set to battle against Chris Sale on the mound.

“It’s great. Whoever came up with the idea — it’s great,” Cora said. “Obviously, there’s gonna be two sides. You’re either gonna like it and others won’t. I think it’s cool. … I haven’t seen it, just being really honest, but should be cool.

“And there’s nothing better than a Friday night here — the music being very loud. And we got two horses on the mound, new unis, and hopefully this is the beginning of a great home stand. We need it. It’s 10 games at home. We better start picking it up here.”
