NEW YORK – If the Blue Jays sweep the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend at Toronto – and that’s no small task – the Jays would hold off the Yankees and win the AL East.

On Friday night, the Yankees host the last-place Baltimore Orioles to begin the final regular season series, and the Yanks will be challenged right off the bat against O’s lefty Trevor Rogers (9-2, 1.35).

Last Friday night at Camden Yards, Rogers tossed six shutout innings against the Yankees in a 4-2 Orioles victory – their only win in a four-game set.

The Yankees counter with Will Warren (8-8, 4.35), making his 33rd start this year – a staggering total, considering the state of the Yanks’ rotation entering spring training.

Warren’s ability to post, during a season where the Yanks lost ace Gerrit Cole, and later Clarke Schmidt, to Tommy John surgery, went a long way toward stabilizing the rotation and getting the Yanks to this point.
