Diamondbacks vs. Padres, 6:40 p.m., Ch. 34.

Diamondbacks RHP Zac Gallen (13-14, 4.70) vs. Padres RHP Yu Darvish (4-5, 5.51).

At Petco Park: Gallen can get to .500 for the season with a win, which was hardly imaginable a couple of months ago. He shut out the Dodgers for six innings on Aug. 29 in L.A., allowing just two hits with eight strikeouts in a 3-0 win. In a 6-3 win at San Diego on July 7, Gallen allowed one earned run on five hits over six innings, striking out nine. The Diamondbacks are 6-0 in Gallen’s last six starts, and he is 4-0 in that span. … Darvish isn’t the dominant force he once was, but can still be effective. He’s pitched more than five innings just once in his last five starts, and has allowed at least two earned runs in each of those outings. Darvish has not made it past four innings in two starts against Arizona this season, including his season debut on July 7.

What to know about the Padres

San Diego is no longer in contention for the National League West title, as the Dodgers clinched it with their win over the Diamondbacks on Thursday, Sept. 25. But the Padres have clinched a postseason spot, and they will face the Chicago Cubs in the wild-card round starting next week. The Padres’ bullpen is among the best in the big leagues, and their offense is paced by Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr., Gavin Sheets and Jackson Merrill. Those four players are the top four in home runs and RBIs for San Diego this season. The Padres and Diamondbacks have split the 10 games played between the two teams this season.
