At press time, the Dodgers were three games up on the second-place San Diego Padres with three to play, but the Dodgers hold the tiebreaker advantage. The Padres have clinched a playoff berth.
Andy Pages hit his 26th home run of the season, a two-run blast in the fourth inning, for the Dodgers Wednesday night. Earlier, Shohei Ohtani tied his own single season record for Dodgers individual home runs, 54.
Eight Dodgers pitchers combined to get the win Wednesday night. The Dodgers will open a three-game series at Seattle Friday. The Mariners have clinched the American League West Division title.
At press time Friday, the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees, tied for first place in the AL East, had both clinched a playoff spot. The Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers, tied for first in the AL Central, were battling for a playoff spot, along with the Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros.
The Guardians hold the tiebreaker advantage over the Tigers.
The Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers have long since clinched the NL East and NL Central titles respectively. The Chicago Cubs have wrapped up a playoff berth.
At press time, the Diamondbacks, New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds were all in contention for a playoff spot.Â
