CLEVELAND, Ohio — First a field, now a street, and perhaps one day a statue — where does it end for José Ramírez?
The city of Cleveland and the Guardians will name a street after the All-Star third baseman on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The street will connect José Ramírez Field at Clark Field with Clark Avenue in the Clark-Fulton neighborhood.
Ramirez will be the first active athlete to have a street named after him in Cleveland.
Blaine Griffin, president of Cleveland’s City Council, Ramirez and members of the Guardians organization will be on hand for the official naming Saturday.
A free baseball clinic will follow the presentation at José Ramírez Field for children six to 16.
The field named after Ramírez was unveiled on Aug. 22, 2023. It was funded with financial support from Ramírez and Cleveland Guardians Charities.
Ramirez was signed by the Guardians as an international free agent on Nov. 26, 2009. He made his big league debut in 2013 and has become one of the most accomplished players in franchise history.
This is his 11th season in the big leagues. He is a seven-time All-Star and a five-time Silver Slugger winner.
