Braves Option Waldrep, Promote Harris Before Pirates Series
The Atlanta Braves made a pair of roster moves on Wednesday, optioning rookie starter Hurston Waldrep and recalling left-hander Hayden Harris for the final series of the season against Pittsburgh.
For Waldrep, the decision ends his first full major league campaign. For Harris, it opens another chance to impress after a breakout year across the minors.
Waldrep Finishes Rookie Season Strong
Waldrep’s debut season lasted 10 games, including nine starts, and the results were encouraging. The 23-year-old right-hander posted a 2.88 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP, numbers that reflect steady progress and strong early returns.
“It sets a really good standard for next year,” Waldrep told reporters. “It puts me in a good spot.”
The Braves expect Waldrep to be a key part of the rotation picture in 2026, giving Atlanta another young arm to build around.

Taking Waldrep’s roster spot is Hayden Harris, Atlanta’s No. 26 prospect. The left-hander has been dominant in 2025, posting a 0.52 ERA across three levels, including an eye-catching 0.31 ERA at Triple-A Gwinnett.
Harris already made his big-league debut earlier this month, appearing in three games. Over 2 2/3 innings, he allowed just one earned run and struck out three. His call-up now gives him another chance to showcase his ability as the Braves close the season.
Harris was also a participant in the All-Star Futures Game, where he represented Atlanta alongside top prospect JR Ritchie.
Braves Look Ahead to Closing Series
With Waldrep optioned and Harris back, the Braves’ rotation for the final series against Pittsburgh is set: Joey Wentz, Spencer Strider, and Charlie Morton are scheduled to start.
For Morton, the outing could mark the final appearance of his career. For the rest of the roster, it’s an opportunity to close a losing season with a glimpse of the future.
