The Guardians (86-74) have won 17 of their last 21 games and are tied with Detroit Tigers for the top spot in the division. Cleveland owns the tiebreaker against the Tigers and the Houston Astros in case the teams finish with identical records.

The Guardians’ magic number to win the Central is 2. They need a win and a Tigers loss to the Boston Red Sox to seal the division. Cleveland will clinch a playoff berth with an Astros loss.

Cleveland dropped their second straight contest after the Rangers jumped ahead with four runs in the first inning. The Guardians mustered only five hits for the second consecutive game.

The pressure is building with just two games to go until the postseason is finalized.

Cleveland chased down the Tigers after trailing by as many as 15 1/2 games on July 8. They were 10 1/2 games out back on Sept. 1. If they hold onto the division lead, the Guardians will own the rights to the greatest division comeback in MLB history.

The Guardians are trying to make the playoffs for the 15th time since 1995.
