The Detroit Tigers are headed to the playoffs.

The Tigers beat the Boston Red Sox, 2-1, on Saturday, Sept. 27, clinching at least an AL wild-card berth. With one more regular-season game left, on Sunday, Sept. 28, against the Red Sox (3:05 p.m., FanDuel Sports Network Detroit), the Tigers could finish as high as the No. 3 seed in the American League by winning their first AL Central title since 2014.

But that would require some help from the Cleveland Guardians, who currently control the AL Central race, with two games remaining in their final regular-season series against the Texas Rangers.

SHAWN WINDSOR: Tigers finally getting the hits that made 2024 special — and a playoff spot

The Tigers need to win Sunday and get one loss from the Guardians to take the AL Central title and earn homefield advantage in the first round of the 2025 MLB postseason, which begins Tuesday. If the Tigers win and the Guardians win out, the Tigers would be the No. 5 seed and open the playoffs on the road against the second-place team from the AL East (either the Toronto Blue Jays or New York Yankees).

If the Tigers wind up as the No. 6 seed in the AL, they’ll face the Guardians in Cleveland in the best-of-three AL wild-card series beginning Tuesday.
