THE New York Mets owner sent a long apology to fans after the team’s disastrous collapse.

The Mets once had the best record in baseball back in June, only to miss the playoffs.

The Mets stunningly missed the playoffs following a three-month disappointing stretch.

The team’s collapse was complete on Sunday after a 4-0 road defeat to the division rival Miami Marlins in Sunday’s regular-season finale.

The following day, Mets owner Steve Cohen apologized to the fans and called the team’s campaign “unacceptable.”

“Mets fans everywhere. I owe you an apology,” Cohen wrote on X.

“You did your part by showing up and supporting the team.

“We didn’t do our part. We will do a post-mortem and figure out the obvious and less obvious reasons why the team didn’t perform up to your and my expectations.

“We are all feeling raw emotions today.

“I know how much time and effort you have put into this team.

“The result was unacceptable. Your emotions tell me how much you care and continues to motivate the organization to do better.

“Thank You to the best fans in sports.”

The Mets finished 83-79 despite having the second-highest payroll in baseball ($340 million) and owning the best record in the sport (45-24) in June.

They needed a win and a Cincinnati Reds loss to get to the playoffs on Sunday.

While the Reds lost to the Brewers, the Mets got shut out, 4-0, by the 79-83 Marlins.

New York lost five of their final eight games and ended the season with the same record as the Reds.

Cincinnati won the season series (4-2), which gave them the tiebreaker for the No. 3 wild card spot.

They’ll take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Wild Card round this week.

The Mets face uncertainty in the upcoming offseason, with star first baseman Pete Alonso set to opt out of his contract and re-enter free agency.

They’ll also have to address their starting pitching and lineup, which was top-heavy and led to their offensive troubles.
