Lovullo to return as Arizona Diamondbacks manager in 2026, team confirms

  • September 29, 2025

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo will return for his 10th season with the organization in 2026, the team confirmed, after missing the MLB postseason for a second year in a row.

Arizona’s Family Sports Director Mark McClune reported the news on Monday morning as players cleared out their clubhouse lockers.

The decision to retain Lovullo comes after the D-backs ended their season on a five-game losing streak in San Diego on Sunday, with an overall record of 80-82. The team was plagued with injuries this year, particularly at the pitching position, after ace Corbin Burnes and relievers Justin Martinez and A.J. Puk all had season-ending elbow surgery.

The 60-year-old was a bench coach for the Boston Red Sox when he was hired by the D-backs in 2016. He was named NL Manager of the Year in 2017 following a 93-69 record and a trip to the postseason, falling to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Division Series.

Lovullo’s contract was extended through the 2026 season following the D-backs’ surprising run to the World Series in 2023, where they ultimately lost to the Texas Rangers in five games.

Arizona barely missed the postseason in 2024 with an 89-73 record.

In other news around the D-backs’ clubhouse, Burnes is still recovering from Tommy John surgery and hopes to return to the lineup by July 2026. Meanwhile, pitcher Zac Gallen will enter free agency after more than six years with the team.
