  • September 30, 2025

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – When the Guardians and Tigers play Game 1 of their AL Wildcard series on Tuesday it will be the third time in 15 days that Gavin Williams takes the mound to oppose Tarik Skubal.

Williams talked with reporters on Monday at Progressive Field. “I mean, kind of star struck a little bit, just being able to start a playoff game,” he said. “It’s phenomenal. Them trusting me to go Game 1, it’s unbelievable.”

“Gavin has been incredible,” said manager Stephen Vogt. “Obviously we’ve talked about him all year long, just the strides that he’s made, the development that he’s come along with. From the start of the year to now, he’s just been incredible [and] incredibly fun to watch.”

Game 1 starts at 1:08 on Tuesday.
