Boston police have released photos of a group of men they believe were involved in a homophobic attack on a gay couple near a Mattapan liquor store earlier this month.
On Sept. 13, Boston police responded to 550 River St. around 7:45 p.m. for a report of a fight, according to the police report on the incident. At the scene, they spoke with a man who explained that the fight started after a group of men shouted homophobic comments at him and his partner while they were walking to a nearby liquor store.
The man, identified in the report only as “Victim #1,” then approached the group, and an argument ensued, according to the report. The group eventually became combative, and a fight broke out between the group and the couple.
During the fight, which spilled out onto River Street, two unidentified men among the group swung “unidentifiable objects” at the couple, according to the report. A few of the men soon went after Victim 1, while another man attacked his partner by hitting him in the head with a baseball bat.

Police found the partner in a parking lot at 550 River St. with blood still coming out of the back of his head, according to the report. He was taken to Beth Israel Hospital for evaluation.
Boston police are still investigating the assault, the department said in a press release Monday. They ask that anyone who recognizes the men pictured above or has any information regarding the incident contact the police department’s Civil Rights Unit at (617) 343-4527.
