NY Mets pay tribute to Jacob deGrom before he returns to Citi Field mound
As Jacob deGrom made his first start back at Citi Field since leaving the Mets, the club played a video tribute on Sept. 12, 2025.
MIAMI — It all comes down to the final day of the regular season for the Mets, and there figures to be plenty of scoreboard watching on Sunday.
The club needs a victory and a Reds loss to punch their ticket to the playoffs for the second straight season.
The Mets complete their regular season at 3:10 p.m. against the Marlins at loanDepot Park in Miami, while the Reds face the Brewers at the same time in Milwaukee.
On the heels of a stellar six-inning performance by Clay Holmes to extend the Mets season on Saturday, Sean Manaea will take the ball on Sunday. Carlos Mendoza said he will be aggressive, though, and have a quick trigger to go to the bullpen. It’s all hands on deck, including David Peterson, to try and lock up a necessary win.
The only pitchers that won’t be available for the Mets are Holmes, Nolan McLean and Brandon Sproat.
Manaea also pitched out of the bullpen in Wednesday. In his last start, he allowed four earned runs in three innings.
The Marlins will be looking to play spoiler against their division foes. Edward Cabrera, who enters with a 7-7 record and 3.66 ERA, will be making the start for the Marlins. The Mets faced him on Aug. 30 and tagged him for five earned runs in four innings before landing on the injured list with an elbow sprain.
