They also blew out Tennessee 10-0 in the semifinals and looked like the most complete team in the country all week, pitching, defense, timely hitting, you name it. Tim Corbin’s squad is peaking at the perfect time, and with the top seed in the NCAA Tournament likely locked up, they’re going to be a tough out in June.

What sets Vandy apart right now is the total resume. They’re 42-16 overall, went 19-11 in one of the toughest conferences in the country, and have stacked up quality wins throughout the year. They’re now No. 1 in RPI, with a strong 28-5 home record and a winning mark on the road. Add in how they’ve played lately, and there’s no doubt they’ve earned the top spot.

This team is just fun, man. I discussed it in many SEC tournament recaps, but they aren’t the sexiest team on paper. They don’t have the elite arm or bat of a top MLB Draft guy. They don’t have a 15+ home run bopper. They don’t have a flame-throwing ace throwing 95+.

This team does everything right. They play defense extremely well, have guys with great command on the mound, and throw strikes. They are a Tim Corbin team, which shows in every game they play. There is no doubt they deserve to be the #1 team.

Who’s In and Out

Let’s start with the newcomers to the top 25. The following have entered or reentered our top 25 rankings:

Arizona Wildcats

UTSA Roadrunners

#19 Arizona Wildcats

The Arizona Wildcats, where do we even begin? This team has been in and out of our top 25 all year long. They started in our preseason top 25 and then showed poorly at the Shriners’ College Showdown at Globe Life Field.Â
