Another AL West team is on the hunt for a new manager.

A day after the Texas Rangers parted ways with Bruce Bochy, multiple reports indicated Tuesday that the Los Angeles Angels will not be bringing back Ron Washington to manage the team in 2026. The former Rangers manager had a contract option to coach in 2026, but the team is reportedly declining to pick it up.

The organization is also parting ways with Ray Montgomery, who became the Angels’ acting manager on June 20 when Washington stepped away from the team due to health concerns relating to a quadruple bypass surgery.

The Angels have not yet made an official announcement regarding the changes.

Washington, 73, was hired by the Angels prior to the 2024 season and the Angels went 63-99 in his first year at the helm. They were on pace to improve early in the season, going 36-38 before he took a leave of absence.

Prior to his time with the Angels, Washington managed the Rangers for eight years and led the club to its first two World Series trips in 2010 and 2011. He resigned after the 2014 season as the team’s winningest manager with a 664–611 all-time record.
