Swampcast breaks down Florida baseball resurgence, Florida softball regionals

The Sun’s Kevin Brockway and Noah Ram discusses Florida softball regionals, Boogie Fland rumors and Florida baseball’s resurgence with the SEC Network’s Nick Belmonte.

Florida baseball will open SEC Tournament play as the 10-seed and will face 15-seed South Carolina on May 20 at 5:30 p.m. in Hoover, Ala. (SEC Network).

The No. 21 Florida Gators (37-19, 15-15 SEC) have won six straight SEC series and are hoping a strong showing at the SEC Tournament will result in possibly earning a No. 1 seed and hosting a regional in the 2025 NCAA Tournament.

Florida won for the 14th time in its last 18 conference games, beating No. 16 Alabama 9-3 on May 17 to take two of three games against the Crimson Tide.

“At least we’ve put ourselves in the discussion to host, so we’ll see what happens,” Florida baseball coach Kevin O’Sullivan said.

Florida swept a three-game series at South Carolina from May 2-4, outscoring the Gamecocks by a combined margin of 39-8 over the three games. That included scoring a season-high 22 runs in a 22-3 win over South Carolina on May 3.

The winner of the Florida-South Carolina game will face No. 7 seed Ole Miss at 5:30 p.m. on May 21. Florida lost two of three against the Rebels from March 27-28, pulling out the final game of the series 11-8 in the second game of a doubleheader. No. 2 seed Arkansas also is in UF’s bracket. The Gators took two of three from Arkansas at home from April 25-27.
