One week remains in the 2025 SEC baseball regular season.
Ahead of the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Alabama, MLB released its list of the top 150 prospects for the 2025 MLB draft.
Among the prospects, Tennessee right-handed pitcher Marcus Phillips ranks No. 69 overall. He is the No. 13 right-handed pitcher on the prospect list.
“Phillips can blow hitters away with a fastball that sits at 96-98 mph and touches 100, compensating for lackluster shape with deceptively low release height and plenty of carry and extension,” Phillips’ scouting profile says. “His slider parks in the mid-80s and reaches 90 mph with more depth than sweep.”
Phillips started his collegiate career as a two-way player at Iowa Western Community College in 2023. He pitched 20 innings in 19 appearances last season 20 innings. Phillips totaled 22 strikeouts, while allowing 15 hits, 13 runs and 15 walks.
He moved into the weekend starting rotation this season. In 14 starts, Phillips has pitched 67.2 innings and struck out 80 batters, while allowing 59 hits, 34 runs and 26 walks.
