TAMPA, Fla. (WWSB) – According to the Major League Baseball (MLB) website, the sale of the Tampa Bay Rays has been completed.
A group led by Jacksonville-area businessman, Patrick Zalupski, has officially closed on the sale. They will be the third ownership group in Rays history behind original owner Vince Namoli and outgoing principal owner Stuart Sternburg.
Zalupski is also on the Board of Trustees at the University of Florida. Zalupski said in a statement “We will work hard to earn the respect and confidence of our fans and new MLB partners, and we are excited about the upcoming challenge to deliver a world-class experience on and off the field.
A news conference with the new owners is set for October 7.
