Twins president of baseball and business operations Derek Falvey and general manager Jeremy Zoll met with reporters Tuesday at Target Field.
Falvey, Zoll, and owenship made the decision to fire manager Rocco Baldelli on Monday, ending his seven-year tenure that included three AL Central titles but only one playoff appearance in his final five seasons.
Falvey said that he had a nearly two hour conversation Monday with Baldelli. He termed their back-and-forth as professional.
The Twins finished 70-92 this year. Baldelli’s firing came following a season marked by a major selloff leading up to the trade deadline. The Twins went 19-35 after the deadline passed following the departure of 10 players from their major league roster. Only the Colorado Rockies fared worse over the final two months. Baldelli is 44. He went 101-61 and won the AL Manager of the Year award as a rookie in 2019.

The Twins, who went 87-75 in 2023 to win their third AL Central title under Baldelli and their first series in the playoffs in 21 years, were in firm control of a wild-card spot down the stretch last season before tumbling out of contention with a 12-27 record in the last six weeks to land at 82-80. Factoring that finish into their extended funk this year, the Twins are 82-119 over their last 201 games for a .408 winning percentage. That includes a 13-game winning streak they produced earlier this season.
Falvey also noted that the search for the next manager hasn’t started yet and that he doesn’t have clarity yet on what the 2026 payroll will look like.
Zoll said that star rookie Luke Keaschall will undergo left thumb surgery on Wednesday in Arizona. He’ll be fine for the start of spring training in February.
