Boston defeated New York, 3-1, Tuesday in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card series at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York.
Former Vol Garrett Crochet started and pitched 7.2 innings for the Red Sox, earning a win. He recorded 11 strikeouts, while totaling 117 pitches, including 78 strikes. Crochet allowed one run, four hits and zero walks.

Boston leads the best-of-three series, 1-0.
Crochet (18-5) completed his first regular season with the Red Sox in 2025. He led MLB in strikeouts (255). Detroit pitcher Tarik Skubal finished second in MLB for strikeouts (241), while Logan Webb (224) led the National League in strikeouts with San Francisco.
Crochet was traded from the White Sox to Boston ahead of the 2025 season. He played for Chicago from 2020-24.
Crochet was selected by the White Sox in the 2020 MLB draft (No. 11 overall) after playing for the Vols from 2018-20.
Boston will next play Wednesday in Game 2 of the American League Wild Card series. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. EDT at Yankee Stadium. ESPN will televise the contest.
