GO Transit is stepping up to bat in support of the Toronto Blue Jays as they begin Game 1 and 2 of the American League Division Series (ALDS).

The regional public transit agency announced on Tuesday that it would be deferring major track work on the Lakeshore West line originally scheduled for Oct. 4 and 5.

The Blue Jays will play either the New York Yankees or the Boston Red Sox at Rogers Centre on those dates.

Weekend GO train and bus service will be running as scheduled, so Jays fans can safely make their way to and from the game.

The change of plans came about in a co-ordinated effort between Metrolinx, their construction partners, and rail services like Canadian National, Alstom and VIA.

“Everyone responded quickly and collaboratively to a significant change in plans,” the company said in a written statement. “We’re grateful for their flexibility and teamwork in making this possible.”

GO Transit will confirm the schedule of future Lakeshore West track closures in the coming days.

The track work in question is described as “critical repair and expansion work to modernize and grow GO service.”

Additionally, the scheduled maintenance closure of the Don Valley Parkway will take place at a later date, also due to the Blue Jays games.

In an email statement, a representative with the City of Toronto said they will make a public announcement when the new date for the closure is confirmed.

“A full maintenance closure is required to enable thorough inspections and repairs, as well as full-width resurfacing of multiple sections, and is less disruptive than multiple partial closures over several weeks or months,” the city said.

The last full maintenance of the DVP was in summer 2021.
