Cincinnati Reds celebrate playoff matchup with Los Angeles Dodgers

The Cincinnati Reds on Sunday clinched the final berth in the 2025 MLB playoff field

The Cincinnati Reds lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series 10-5 but can continue their postseason run with a win in Game 2 tonight.

They’ll have to do better than in the series opener, when they gave up five home runs, including two home runs to Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani. The Reds were already down 5-0 after the third inning, with ace Hunter Greene struggling. The Dodgers, meanwhile, coasted due to a dominant outing from starting pitcher Blake Snell, even if Cincinnati did show some life against the Los Angeles bullpen.

Though the Reds lost their final regular-season game to the Milwaukee Brewers, Cincinnati held the head-to-head tiebreaker over New York (a 4-2 record against the Mets) and earned the wild card spot despite sharing identical records at 83-79.

Cincinnati is playing October baseball for the first time since 2020, when it made the playoffs after a shortened MLB season. This 2025 campaign marks the first time the Reds made the playoffs in a 162-game season since 2013.

The Reds take on the NL West champion Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 2 of the best-of-three series on Oct. 1.
