Can Detroit Tigers get to 96 wins in 2025? Here’s what it would take
On “Days of Roar,” Evan Petzold and Chris Brown break down what’s going right for the Detroit Tigers in the past month, plus if 96 wins is achievable.
The Detroit Tigers avoided a three-game sweep with a 6-2 win over the New York Mets in Detroit on Wednesday, Sept. 3. Before hosting their next three-game home series against the Chicago White Sox from Friday, Sept. 5 through Sunday, Sept. 7, they’ll get a day off to rest.
The Tigers’ American League Central magic number, or the combined number of Tigers wins and losses from either the Kansas City Royals or Cleveland Guardians (whichever team ends up in second place) to win the division, is down to 13. The Tigers won’t be able to chip away at that number on Thursday, though both the Royals and the Guardians are scheduled to play, meaning that number could lower to 12 once the Tigers begin play against the White Sox.
The Tigers will be throwing out their veteran starting pitchers for the upcoming three-game series, with Jack Flaherty, Tarik Skubal and Charlie Morton all scheduled to pitch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Once the Tigers finish out their homestand, they’ll head to the Bronx to face off against the New York Yankees, who are currently atop the AL Wild Card standings fending off their rival Boston Red Sox.
Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming Tigers series against the White Sox.
