Baseball hopes remain alive in New York for one more day.

In what was a back-and-forth Game 2 battle, the Yankees were able to pull away with a 4-3 win over the Red Sox in The Bronx on Wednesday night to force a decisive Game 3 in their AL wild-card series, and it all boiled down to Aaron Boone going against his Game 1 instincts that put the Yankees’ backs against the wall.

Max Fried delivered a gem of a start in Game 1, yet after retiring Jarren Duran on a ground ball to register the first out in the seventh inning, Boone pulled the Yankees ace for Luke Weaver even with the bottom of the lineup coming up for Boston.

Things turned from there for the Yankees as the bullpen imploded for a 3-1 loss.
