It feels like déjà vu from last year, as the Tigers and Guardians face off in another winner-take-all contest for Game 3 in their AL wild-card series.

Detroit’s opportunity for a sweep fell apart thanks to multiple missteps, being unable to take advantage of having multiple runners in scoring position and an eighth-inning meltdown from the bullpen that allowed five runs in a 6-1 loss in Game 2.

Memories are still fresh about the Game 5 winner-take-all contest from last year’s divisional series between these two teams, where Cleveland rallied from a 2-1 series deficit to advance. However, the Tigers look to change their fortunes in elimination games, where they’ve lost their last three contests.

For the Tigers, Jack Flaherty gets the start for his 11th postseason game, where he has an overall 2-5 record. The Guardians have only allowed three runs over the first two games of this series, as starter Slade Cecconi looks to continue their strong pitching.
