Stephen Vogt moved rookie Chase DeLauter up to the No. 5 spot in his lineup and dropped Bo Naylor to 7th heading into Game 3. He said the move was more about getting the right matchups later in the game than it was about performance.
Vogt said constructing a lineup for an all-hands-on-deck elimination game is a lot different than a random game in July.
“It’s very different, obviously. And again, it’s game where they (Detroit) can do whatever they want and it’s read and react. We’re trying to find the best way to get to (Jack) Flaherty and protect ourselves the best we can when they go to the bullpen. So we feel like this is the lineup with our best hitters in it and we’re going to roll with it.”
