CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Chattanooga Public Library’s Local History & Genealogy Department is set to unveil its latest exhibit, exploring the history and culture surrounding baseball in the Volunteer State.

“Home Runs & Home Teams: A History of the National Pastime in Tennessee,” crafted by the Museum of East Tennessee History, will be on display from October 4, 2025, to March 18, 2026, on the third floor of the Downtown Library.

The traveling exhibit is free and open to all ages, available for viewing Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The display delves into Tennessee’s rich baseball history, exploring questions topics like the origin of baseball in the state, the advent of minor baseball league teams, and what makes baseball in Tennessee so special.

Jessica Sedgwick, Head Librarian of Local History & Genealogy, says the exhibit connects the past and future of baseball, creating an experience that will allow visitors to look at baseball from a different point of view.

Baseball runs deep in Chattanooga’s history, and with excitement building for the new Erlanger Park, this exhibit couldn’t be more timely. ‘Home Runs & Home Teams’ offers a chance to explore the shared memories, iconic ballparks and unsung heroes that shaped the game in Tennessee.

In addition to the traveling exhibition, the library will host programs and curate a companion display featuring historical materials from its own collections, highlighting Chattanooga’s own unique baseball legacy.
