Kavan Markwood, a former Pennsylvania high school football star who also played in college, is facing new charges after he suffered a serious fall onto the warning track during a game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs earlier this year.
KDKA reported that Brentwood Police said Markwood has been charged with a misdemeanor count of loitering and prowling at nighttime after “attempting to gain entry” into his ex-girlfriend’s home at 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police said doorbell camera footage showed Markwood “forcefully knocking on the front door” before leaving. Officers said they spotted him one street away from the home and detained him. They said he was intoxicated at the time and admitted to officers that he was at the home and sent his ex-girlfriend text messages.
This came just days after KDKA said Markwood was in a Pittsburgh city court supporting his friend Ehtan Kirkwood, who is accused of giving him alcohol before he fell out of the stands at PNC Park and onto the warning track back in April.
The former college linebacker, who was 20 at the time of the incident, suffered serious injuries to his skull, brain, spine, ribs and lungs due to the fall, according to KDKA, after falling 21 feet.
The Pirates had Markwood back last month to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before their game against the Oakland Athletics.
Markwood spoke with Inside Edition about his fall recently.
“I don’t know how I’m alive,” he said. “I wake up with pain every day — my arm. I can’t feel my two fingers still. I’m doing better than what I was, that’s for sure.”
Markwood was a high school football star at South Allegheny High School. He was named first-team all-conference and was his team’s MVP as a senior.
He played college football at Wheeling University in 2023.
