MAYVILLE, WI – The Mayville Limestone School Museum (MLSM) is honored to announce that former Milwaukee Brewers star and local hero Jim Gantner will be the featured speaker for the museum’s annual presentation on Sunday, October 5, at 2:00 p.m.
Gantner, a native of Eden who starred at Campbellsport High School and UW-Oshkosh, will share his personal story, detailing his journey from small-town Wisconsin to a distinguished career in Major League Baseball. Known affectionately as “Gumby,” Gantner was a cornerstone of the Brewers’ infield during the 1980s, playing alongside legends Cecil Cooper, Robin Yount, and Paul Molitor. He was a key member of the 1982 team that won the American League pennant and competed in the World Series, hitting a career-high .295 that season.
Gantner’s celebrated career spanned from 1976 to 1994, all with the Milwaukee Brewers. His impressive accomplishments include being inducted into the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame and the Milwaukee Brewers Wall of Honor. Gantner holds top-tier franchise records in hits, runs scored, and games played. His number 17 remains one of the most recognizable in team history.
The public is invited to attend this special event to hear firsthand from one of Wisconsin’s most beloved sports figures. Following his talk, Gantner will take questions from the audience.
In addition to the speaker presentation, the Mayville Limestone School Museum will be open to the public from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on October 5 for guests to explore the museum’s exhibits.
