Craig Counsell, as expected, was booed heavily in his return to Milwaukee for the Chicago Cubs’ playoff series against the Brewers on Oct. 4.

And, he was ripped just as much on social media in response to comments he made about his former club ahead of Game 1.

If you didn’t hear, Counsell, who managed the Brewers for nine years before leaving for enemy territory in 2023, said the NL Central champion Brewers “don’t swing.”

Well, about that, Counsell.

The Brewers were swinging and swinging and swinging some more in Game 1. They erupted for nine runs in the first two innings as they built an early 9-1 lead.

It was the perfect response after the Cubs had a lead-off home run to begin the game. Jackson Chourio, Brice Turang and William Contreras greeted Counsell’s Cubs with three straight doubles in the first.

By the end of the first inning it was 6-1. And they didn’t stop swinging in the second inning.

They added three more runs with the towel-waving sell-out crowd in Milwaukee keeping it a partisan atmosphere at American Family Field. It wasn’t Wrigley Field North.
