Former Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Walker Buehler has been giving the Philadelphia Phillies information on the Dodgers’ lineup for the NLDS.
Buehler joined the Phillies after the Boston Red Sox, with whom he signed in the offseason, released him at the end of August. He had a 4.93 ERA during the regular season, making 26 appearances between the two teams. The right-hander spent the first seven seasons of his MLB career on the Dodgers.
“I think he’s given some information to our pitching coaches,” said Phillies manager Rob Thompson. “He’s a winner. It’s like having [Zach Wheeler] around. He’s a winner. He has that aura about him.
“We’re going to use him out of the pen in this series. Whether it’s for length or for one inning, that’s to be seen. Yeah, he’s a great teammate. He’s in the middle of everything in that clubhouse. And he’s a good guy to have around. And he’s got a lot of talent.”

Wheeler was one of the most dominant pitchers in the National League before landing on the injured list with a blood clot. Wheeler had a 2.71 ERA through 24 starts with the Phillies, but will be out for the remainder of the postseason.
The Phillies didn’t use Buehler in the opening game of the NLDS, which the Dodgers won 5-3 after a late-inning comeback. The Dodgers have got the better of Buehler in the only time they’ve faced him since his departure, scoring three runs through 4.2 innings, though they ended up losing the game to the Red Sox.

The Dodgers gained a huge advantage in the series after their Game 1 road win, and will look to keep the ball rolling in Game 2. Blake Snell will take the mound for the Dodgers for his second start this postseason in Game 2, which begins Monday at 3:08 p.m. PT.
