1. Toronto thumps Yankees 13-7 in Game 2 of ALDS
Toronto thumped the Yankees 13-7 in Game 2 of the ALDS, taking a 2-0 series lead. Rookie Trey Yesavage struck out 11 in 5 1/3 no-hit innings, setting a Blue Jays postseason record.
Cody Bellinger homered for New York in a late rally, but the Blue Jays won their eighth straight home game against the Yankees. Game 3 shifts to Yankee Stadium Tuesday.
2. Hundreds flock to annual blessing of the animals
Dogs, cats and even a camel joined congregants at St. John the Divine for the annual Feast of St. Francis and Blessing of the Animals on Sunday.
Hundreds of New Yorkers lined up for a chance to have their pets blessed during the service, led by Rev. Winnie Varghese. The event included music, dancing and a tribute to conservationist Jane Goodall, who died last week.
3. New York-born Israeli is youngest American hostage captured by Hamas
Ruby Chen says he is “cautiously optimistic” after Hamas agreed in principle to release hostages held in Gaza. His son Itay, a 19-year-old New York-born Israeli soldier, was the youngest American captured on Oct. 7, 2023.
