The Albright College Athletics Hall of Fame will induct four new members this month, including professional baseball pitcher Casey Lawrence.

The induction ceremonies will be Homecoming weekend, Oct. 24-25.

Lawrence ’10 will be joined in the induction class by Matthew Christ ’08, Thomas Fitti ’08, and Jason Scheerer ’02.

The Hall of Fame induction will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24 in the Schumo Center Red & White room and lobby.

Matthew Christ – football

Christ was a two-time All-MAC selection in 2007-08 and was a D3Football All-Region selection those two seasons.

In 2007, he was a D3Football All-American honorable mention and in 2008 was a Lindy’s Sporting News and D3Football preseason All-American.

He served as team captain for three seasons and was a member of Albright’s MAC championship team in 2008.

He is now a high school science teacher.

Thomas Fitti – football

Fitti was an All-MAC first team selection in 2000 and 2001, earning team defensive MVP award in 2001.

He is among the school’s career leaders in tackles and tackles for loss, and was a Sigma Alpha Epsilon All-American in 2000.

He was a member of the ECAC South Atlantic Regional Championship team in 2001.

He was on Honor Roll of Alumni in 2009-2010.

He is a special education coordinator in Upper Darby School District.

Casey Lawrence – Baseball

After a standout baseball career at Albright, Lawrence went on to professional ball where he still plays.

He was the ninth Albright player to make Major League Baseball and the first since 1930.

The 37-year-old righthander has pitched in the majors with Toronto, Seattle and St. Louis. This past summer he was with the Tacoma Raniers, a Triple-A team, after pitching in April for the Mariners.

He was a Minor League All-Star in 2010, 2012 and 2013 and the Blue Jays Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2022.

He holds the Mariners’  single game record for strikeouts in relief, nine in 2017.

At Albright, he was an All-MAC Commonwealth first team selection in 2008, and a second team All-MAC selection 2009. He was the Middle Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year in 2007.

He holds the school record for career strikeouts.

Jason Scheerer – Track and field

Scheerer was a standout on the track and field squad in the early 2000s, earning first team All-MAC honors in 2000 and second team honors in 2001.

He was the team’s MVP in 2002.

He was a member of several record-setting relays teams, including the indoor 4 x 400 relay and the outdoor 4 x 200 relay.

He is a restaurant general manager now.
